Nervous / Reactive Dog Training Walks

nervous dog, reactive dog, dog anxiety, stressful walks

My dog lunges / barks / growls at other dogs

My dog hates other dogs / strangers

Why cant my dog play nicely with other dogs?

Walking my fearful dog makes me super anxious

I have to have eyes in the back of my head when walking my nervous dog

Offlead dogs are constantly undoing our progress

Other owners give me nasty looks and make horrible comments

I wish people could understand that my dog is fearful, not vicious

Why cant other people and dogs just leave us alone?

Why shouldn't my dog be allowed to enjoy a walk in a public place?

Will I ever be able to walk my dog nicely?

Oh my word, having a nervous, fearful and / or 'reactive' dog is hard work. And that is an understatement!

It literally does mean having to be hyper-vigilant at all times for that unknown factor that could be around the next corner or that could enter the field at any time sending your dog into a frenzy.

It can be incredibly draining being the guardian of a nervous or fearful dog. They can find the world, or elements of it, overwhelming and can react to this in a way that seems out of proportion to us as their handlers.

Walks can become chores and unpleasant experiences at both ends of the lead and this can prolong and reinforce the fear in the dog whilst creating and amplifying anxiety in the handler.

At Bespoke Behaviours, we understand, we have been there! We have buckets full of empathy and zero judgement for the handlers of nervous and fearfully reactive dogs. We will literally walk you through it. We will show you ways to manage the situations as they happen and how to use the environment to your advantage to reduce the impact on your dog and yourself.

We are here for you and we will help you.

All of our training is through positive reinforcement and gentle methods to start to reframe walks for your dog (and yourself) from being stressful and scary events into being enjoyable and easier to cope with. The dogs are never sent into a panic or fearful state. They learn to find walks safe and to focus on engaging with their handler rather than their current triggers.

PLEASE NOTE

Nervous / reactivity training walks are appropriate for dogs with generalised reactivity issues towards other dogs. They are not appropriate for dogs who have an aggression issue with a specific individual other dog.

Dogs who are nervous of strangers but have no bite history and who are likely to settle once appropriately introduced, will be considered.

For all enquiries for this package, a phone call will be required prior to booking to assess that this training  is appropriate for your dog's level of support needs.
